For one thing, our family doctor, Alice Edwards, MD, is sick and not able to work at her office. We fail to realize that medical doctors are humans and subject to sickness. So, our hearts reach out to Dr. Edwards with love and compassion along with our prayers for her healing. Now is the time to show our love and patience for her in her time of need.
Since we were unable to get medication for Melvine''s deep cough and congestion from our family physician we turned to Melvine's oncologist to obtain a prescription. In the meantime, the PA ordered an x-ray. We had to go back to St. Mary's Hospital to get the x-rays of Melvine's chest/lungs. I had a doctor's appointment at 1:10 to check the eyelids of my eyes in preparation for surgery on December 11. I was there about an hour to check my eyelids. Then, we drove to St. Mary's Hospital for the x-rays. Melvine's oncologist wanted the x-rays completed prior to her chemotherapy on Friday which will take approximately 5 hours. We pray that Melvine's lungs are clear of any infection.
When we left St. Mary's Hospital, it was time to eat. So, we drove to our favorite Mexican Restaurant in Athens in Homewood Hills called Taqueria La Parrilla. We ordered Fajitas for two with grilled chicken and steak. It was an enjoyable early supper and dining with Melvine is a special blessing to me.
I took Melvine home and drove to get Melvine's medication from our pharmacist, plus a couple of other stops I had to make before coming home. I finally got home at 6 p. m. It takes a lot of work to be a care giver. Learning how to effectively communicate with Melvine is a challenge for me. Things that were assumed we both knew and agreed to, is now a different ball game. I desire for Melvine to know all of the ramifications involved in each requirement for her as well as myself.
On Thursday, that's today, Melvine has invited Claudia Strickland to take her to get a manicure and a pedicure. She takes a lot of pride in her personal appearance. I want her to have what she feels she needs. We have done this through the years, 58 plus. I feel a woman needs to get her hair done every week. That has usually happened on Fridays, and then I have taken her out to dine at a nice restaurant. We have had so many wonderful dates on Friday nights with a host of memories.
