What do you do in crisis? Where do you turn for truth, assurance, confidence, comfort?
Melvine heard one of the most dreaded words in the English language on Friday from her oncologist. This young American Chinese doctor struggled to tell an 83-year-old woman that she has cancer. The bottom line is that Melvine has ovarian carcinoma (cancer).
We turn to Holy Scripture. The Apostle Peter has something to say about all this:
1 Peter 5:6-7
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
NKJV
It is little wonder that Peter would use the word "casting." It is a fisherman's language. Peter was a professional fisher. I can imagine Peter casting his large fishing net as far as He could for a catch of fish. There is a point of no return. You let the net go, trusting that there will be a catch of fish in your net.
Although Peter had fished all of his life Jesus taught him about how to catch fish when he and his partners had fished all night and caught nothing. Here are our Lord's instructions:
"And He (Jesus) said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish" (John 21:6, NKJV). They had to call for their partners to help them bring in all the fish. Here is where our friends, loved ones, and partners can help us by your prayers to God, in the Name of Jesus, for Melvine. We only ask for God's will to be done.
Melvine and I are casting this cancer upon Jesus for we believe He cares for Melvine. Our God can remove this cancer if He so desires. We submit our lives anew to Almighty God. He knows all about Melvine and she is in His care. We have trusted God for our eternal salvation and we have experienced the New Birth. Our lives have been changed forever. We have walked with God all our lives and for over 58 years of married life we have served faithfully in the Kingdom of God. We have nothing to fear. God's love casts out all fear.
The Apostle Paul had this to say about life and death:
Philippians 1:21
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
NKJV
