John 4:24
God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

The church where we worship is a building to allow God's people to come together for the primary purpose of worshiping God. However, the church is the people who worship in the building called the church. I like to refer to the place of worship as the sanctuary. It is a sacred place and we need to teach our children what that means.
It is the responsibility of the church leadership to make sure the sanctuary is maintained with order, proper heating and air conditioning, lighting, sound, and cleanness. It has been dedicated as a holy place and we need to treat it as such.
Our people come to church to worship God. The encounter Jesus had with the Samaritan Woman at the well of Sychar revealed the meaning of true worship when He said, "God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality)."
Worship means that we ascribe to God worth. He is worthy to receive our adoration, love, praise and obedience. It is a wonderful thing to sing praises to our God, to focus on His goodness, love, mercy and grace. In the case of the Samaritan woman she longed for more than the rituals and traditions of her worship. Jesus was calling her to an intimate relationship with God. And that is His agenda for us today know Him and commune with Him daily, even moment by moment.
To worship God in spirit and in truth it means that we do so from the depths of our spiritual being by opening up our hearts to obey what God is speaking to us in our lives.
One of my favorite hymns is "Trust and Obey." The fourth and fifth stanzas go like this:
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Then the chorus we sing with delight and joy:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
What does God want you to do in 2017?
Some just need to look around and see what is right before you. It is amazing what ministries we overlook that are near at hand.
