2 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
[Editor's comment: It is vital that we teach our children the 10 Commandments. Honoring our parents is a command by God along with a promise. God always keeps His promises. Will you live a long life? You are promised a long life if you obey your parents. Just because a person dies in his youth or young adult life it is not necessarily true that he or she were disobedient to his or her parents. My dad lived to be 94. I believe he honored his parents. I am 84 and hope to reach the age of 85 on December 15. Whatever the case, I want to live in the presence of God every day and serve Him as long as He allows me to live. I still enjoy going to church to worship God with His people.]
