Welcome Back SCU Students!Although this year’s S.O.A.R. weekend, Student Orientation And Registration, looked a little different from previous years due to social distancing, face masks and other health and safety protocols and procedures, the atmosphere was still permeated with the feeling of community, belonging, and new beginnings.
Students began moving in the week of August 10 and by Saturday, August 15, campus was once more alive with activities.
Students began moving in the week of August 10 and by Saturday, August 15, campus was once more alive with activities.
The weekend began with the 6th annual Convocation, where new students are prayed over by the faculty and staff in preparation for their college career at SCU. Dr. Tom Murray, our president, spoke about the roads a person takes during their life and how God has destined a path for each individual to follow. He compared this current road that the students, and their families, are travelling to the famous Route 66, which families in the 1930s traveled to find new beginnings. Bishop Stuart and Sheri Sherrill spoke to the parents about the impact SCU can make on their child’s life, and thanked them for allowing SCU to be a part of this important next step in their student’s life.
Over the past two weeks, SGA and Res Life have hosted a variety of events to help students become a part of the community of SCU. Events such as a BBQ cookout on the lawn, movie night on the hill, paint slip-n-slide, and kayaking on the North Canadian River through the Stinchcombe Refuge.
Classes are well underway, and although the layout and format looks different this year with smaller classes, hybrid classes and a lot more space between everyone, those at SCU are convinced that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,” Philippians 1:6. Although the future is unclear, those at SCU believe that God will continue using SCU to equip students for a life of learning, leadership and service to positively impact their world for Jesus Christ.
