Detours, delays, distractions happen in all our lives. What we learn from them is the key to success now and in the future.
Paul made a conscious decision to by-pass Ephesus. However, he longed to meet with the Elders of that great church and he invited them to join him in Miletus, about 40 miles away. Sometimes, we are called to make trips of 40 or more miles to fulfill a divine directive.
It is most interesting that in this meeting with the leaders of the church in Ephesus we obtain a saying of our blessed Lord that is not written in any of the Gospels. Somehow, the Holy Spirit reserved that message for Paul to tell us.
God wanted us to learn that in all of our ministering we are not to forget the orphans, widows, the poor, and the disenfranchised, and moreover, nor should we take advantage of them and abuse them.
Paul said that we are to remember the Words of our Lord when He said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
That familiar saying was a part of what we call Oral Tradition of Scriptures. The word blessed here means more fruitful and more profitable.
As we think of going to church on this Pentecost Sunday 2020, let us ask God what gift would He desire us to give in a special offering to the church above the tithes? Is that something you might like to consider? Will you obey God if He tells you what to give?
May I encourage you to think about it. Selah!
