Whatever is going on inside of Melvine remains a mystery. I have a hunch, but my hunches are not always accurate.
Wednesday began again with confusion and disorientation. Melvine thought it was Sunday once again. It is difficult to convince her that she is wrong. I want her to know the truth, and to be aware of what day it is, and what we plan to do.
It became clear to me that I had to cancel some very important appointments. I cancelled the St. Mary's Outpatient Rehab Center where they were to evaluate her for a series of physical therapy. I cancelled an appointment with her dermatologist. I have inspected her nose where she has had a skin graft. At one point in time she had a dark spot on the outer edge of the graft. It has disappeared. I consider it to have been a makeup buildup and it has been cleansed.
However, because of symptoms I have seen in the past that are indicators of an UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), I have decided to take Melvine to St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Clinic. I have enlisted Bonnie Bender to go with me to help me
make a strong claim for a urine specimen with a catheter. Unfortunately, doctors' offices don't do them, and they force you to go to the emergency clinic. I tried to get St. Mary's Home Health Care Nurse to come to our home to do it. But my request was turned down.
No one cares as much as I do for Melvine. I am not saying others don't care, but there are situations that require pro-active measures, and I am doing that. If it is a UTI, then, our family doctor can treat her with an antibiotic.
I guess, in a sense, I am practicing medicine. Some medicines work, and some don't.
I need your prayers for wisdom and patience. The article that Anne Peterson has written in this issue of Hugh's News peaks to me at the depths of my being. I wish I could write like she does. She is marvelous and a gift to all of us.
Please continue to write us. We love your cards and letters.
