Mondays are sometimes days filled with activity from early morning to late at night.
Tremendous Jones, a motivational speaker in years gone by, use to say that he believed in Murphy's Law: He plans on everything going wrong, and if anything works out right, he will work it in." We had that kind of a day on Monday.
Melvine came home from St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA on Friday evening at 6 o'clock.
We had a packet of the paper work for Melvine during her four-day stay in the hospital. There were several doctors' prescriptions that needed to be filled at our pharmacy in Winder, GA, near our home. Our pharmacy closes at 7 o'clock, and Greg, our son, had driven home for the weekend from his teaching position in music at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School. So, Greg, ever ready to help his father and mother, offered to go to the pharmacy for us to get the prescriptions.
Unfortunately, the prescription for Hydrocodone for pain was not filled out correctly. Since it is a narcotic the pharmacist could not fill it. We had to wait until Monday to contact our family physician to get a new prescription written. So, I called our doctor's office shortly after 8 a. m. to request the prescription. Jeanette Phillips, a dear friend of ours, a retired math teacher and a member of our local church council volunteered to go to our doctor's office to get the prescription and take it to our pharmacy to get it filled. I called to coordinate all of this to make sure a third party could do it for us. My request was granted. PTL!
Jeanette is a dynamic Christian lady. She is filled with enthusiasm and has a desire to serve others, She asked Melvine if she would help her. Melvine commissioned Jeanette to clean out our refrigerator. Wow, what a masterful job she did. She cleaned in the kitchen, and took up rugs to be cleaned and put back down. She did other cleaning. She took the bed sheets off our master bed and washed them along with the pillow cases. So, Monday night we slept in clean sheets thanks to Jeanette Phillips. In addition, Jeanette got me a sausage and egg biscuit from Bojangles for my lunch. She even got our mail in for us. What a worker and she does it with joy and delight. She is happily married to Ken Phillips, our Men's Ministries director at Christian Life Worship Center. Ken came over Friday afternoon to cut our grass, do weed eating and edging of sidewalks and our driveway, put out roundup, and blew off the sidewalk and driveway, and front porch and back patio. Whatever he does, he does it with efficiency.
Melvine took charge of things by calling the oncologist's office to make an appointment for Friday to get the test results from the biopsy of the growth/tumor that was taken last Friday. Melvine is eager to know what this growth/tumor is, what is it's origin and if it is in other parts of her body. She wants to know the prognosis, and treatment plans. Only after she knows the facts will she make a decision of what she will or will not do. She will be 84 years old on December 16, one day after my birthday which is December 15. I will be 86 years old.
Melvine continues to be short of breath when she walks. She has been ordered by doctors not to do any work and rest. That is a tall order for Melvine. She is a worker and a good one. She is unrelenting, and runs a tight ship, and makes us aware of time schedules. She would make a great train master to make sure the trains are always on time. She is a little woman with great command. I saw her speak to an Austrian train conductor in Vienna as we departed a Hungarian train to get on a modern Austrian train. We made it, thanks to Melvine barking out orders to this Austrian railroad official. When we went to Catania, Sicily to visit Navy Chaplain Timothy Moore and his family, the Italian men showed her great respect. She looks like an Italian.
Meanwhile, there are other doctors to see: our primary physician, our heart specialist, and kidney specialist. We are blessed to have some of the best doctors and nurses and hospitals in the nation. It is nice to live in Georgia. And we have a winning football team, too. We have become fans of the Georgia Bulldogs. However, I still pull for the Crimson Tide of Alabama. I have followed the Tide since the 40s. In Alabama, you are either for Bama or Auburn. Just remember it is a football game. I am not wrapped up in it as I used to be.
We need your continued prayers. Melvine continues to receive get-well cards.

Oh, yes, Lavon and Arlette Revells came to see us with a dozen or more pink roses in a beautiful vase from our Sunday school class. The Revells are close friends of ours and they serve as the teachers/facilitators of our Sunday school class. Melvine serves as one of the backup teachers when the Revells have to be away. Lavon is a member of our church council.
