Franklin Springs, GA -- Recently graduated senior Katie McCall and rising senior Kamaia Gaylen have been selected to represent a United States women's lacrosse team in the 2016 Great Britain Invasion Friendship Series. Both players were selected through recommendations to the USA Athletes International (USAAI) and with good reason. McCall and Gaylen have both been starting defensive players for the last 3 seasons for the Lady Lions, leading the team in statistics including caused turnovers, groundballs, and interceptions.
Both Lady Lions will be traveling to Newcastle, England on May 31 alongside 12 teammates selected from other reputable collegiate programs located in North Carolina, Washington D.C., and Vermont, to name a few. The team will be led by Division I head coach Kristina Llanes who tallies 7 years combined experience from Kennesaw State and Presbyterian College and Division II assistant coach Sandy Palumbo of Saint Michael's College.
The team's itinerary includes 4 days of sightseeing and 4 days of competition. The first game will be held on June 2 in Newcastle, followed by a day of travel to Scotland to compete in Edinburgh, Stirling and Arthur's Seat. The final game of the series will be held on June 8 with a return date set for June 9.
Our thoughts and prayers are with both women as they represent Emmanuel College in the United Kingdom.
