hIt was a very cold winter January day. The wind kicked up her heels and we felt the effects as the wind caused the cold air to penetrate. The cold here in Georgia is penetrating. We thank God we can stay in our home most of the day.
I had to make a few trips, one to the post office in Statham, GA, near our home, to mail some important documents by certified return receipt. Sometimes it is necessary to send mail that way. We have a small post office. However, we have excellent service and clerks who really want to help you. They are the best of the best.
Today, was not one of Melvine's best days. She really wanted to go to the ladies Bible study and prayer meeting, but she hurt so badly and has come down with another cough that she made the decision not to go today. I think she made a wise decision. She doesn't need to get out in this cold weather and being sick is a good reason to stay home.
As a daily routine I gave her her medication. I usually check on her pain level. She was in a lot of pain in her lower stomach, and her lower back was hurting. I took her vital signs and I record the data on a piece of paper. I take the paper to my office and record it there in a Word document on my computer. By so doing, I can give our doctors a better perspective of what is happening in Melvine's body.
I encouraged Melvine to take a nap this afternoon and it was for several hours, and that is what she needs--rest and sleep.
I called our family doctor, Dr. Alice Edwards, to ask for her help. I have to talk with her nurse. That's okay. I am learning how to relate better with her nurse. Thus far, it is working out satisfactorily.
I am learning that by talking softly, slowly, and with love and compassion my care giving is much more effective in my day-to-day relationship with Melvine. She needs my reassuring her and explanation of what is happening.
One of the things that happens to all patients is that of orientation. They tend to lose their orientation to reality. When I grasped that meaning in relation to Melvine, I have been more effective in helping Melvine with the day of the week, the schedule for the day, doctor's appointments, etc.
We stand in need of your continued prayers for Melvine's healing. It is a good thing to realize that we have an army of prayer warriors to intercede for us before the throne of God for His healing touch and deliverance.
We are so grateful to God for all of you who love us and pray for us daily.
Well, it is my bedtime and I am wanting to go to bed. I am getting sleepy.
I trust that God will abundantly bless you and your family in 2019.
Have a blessed night, and my the dogs not bark and awaken you.
Your friend in all seasons,
Hugh
