It was on August 13, 1960, that the former Miss Melvine Stewart from Draper, NC, and I were married.
It really took a miracle to get us together. Melvine often tells people by saying "Hugh was from Birmingham, Alabama, and I from Draper, NC, and we met in Appomattox, VA."
One of my favorite songs that Melvine sings as a solo is "It Took a Miracle" written by John W. Peterson.
You may listen to and see Sandi Patty sing this song with her father, Ron Patty and accompanied by her mother on the piano by Clicking Here.
Greg, our son, who teaches music at the Thomson-McDuffie Middle School in Thomson, Georgia responded to this article the other day like this:
Trivia: not only did my voice teacher, Dr. Delavan at Oral Roberts University, teach Steve Green, he also taught voice lessons to Sandi Patty's father. I'm sure that Dr. Delavan was a young teacher when he taught Mr. Patty. Obviously, he did a good job.
Here are the lyrics to "It Took a Miracle":
1. My Father is omnipotent, and that you can´t deny;
A God of might and miracles,´tis written in the sky.
CHORUS:
It took a miracle to put the stars in place;
It took a miracle to hang the world in space.
But when He saved my soul,
Cleansed and made me whole,
It took a miracle of love and grace.
2. Though here His glory has been shown, we still can’t fully see
The wonders of His might, His throne, t’will take eternity.
3. The Bible tells us of His power and wisdom all way through;
And every little bird and flower are testimonies too.
4. The greatness of the Lord is seen in everything He made,
But greater far the work He did when on Him my sin was laid.
My favorite secular love song is entitled, "When I fall in love it will be forever."

You must understand Melvine and I grew up in the 30s, 40s, and 50s and were married August 13, 1960.
We both love this kind of music.
We love the big band era of music. You can call us old fashioned and that fits us perfectly.
I am grateful that God gave me Melvine, who is the love of my life. We thank God for all the
wonderful memories we have of our married life. We thank God for Greg and Stephanie, as well as
Christopher Todd, a miscarriage, and Julia Frances who was a still birth when we lived in Wilmore, KY.
We know something about the sorrows and grief of life and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit
as He has made Jesus so real in our hearts. He has always seen us through the dark days, as well as
the bright sunshine days when all seemed great and wonderful.
Greg is our only child alive today. He is the music teacher of Thomson-McDuffie Middle School in Thomson,
Georgia. He reported on Wednesday when he called us after school that he has 40 students signed up in
his choral class. So, he has a 40-voice choir he will introduce to some great music. Melvine and I plan to
attend every concert he conducts. My hunch is that when the word gets out about his great musical ability
and the exciting songs they will be singing, that number of singers will expand exponentially.
Greg is truly a Pentecostal, and he loves the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He believes in the doctrines of
our church like Melvine and I do, and he can explain them far better than I can. How this pleases Melvine
and me to know he is committed to our beliefs as Pentecostal Holiness members and leaders.
"When I Fall In Love"
(originally by Doris Day)
When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I'll fall in love with you.
