It appears that the time of the Rev. Dr. James R. Pennington's departure from this life to his eternal home is heaven is near at hand.
I am reminded of what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 about his on impending death and departure from this life to the eternal world in heaven, " . . . the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" (NIV).
Although I have known Brother James Pennington for many years, I must admit that I did not know him as well as my good friend the Rev. Dr. Leroy Baker of Splendora, Texas, who worked as the Assistant Director of Evangelism and the Radio Speaker for the IPHC National Radio Broadcast Ministry. They were colleagues in ministry and good friends. Therefore, I contacted Leroy and asked for his help.
Here is what Leroy Baker wrote about our treasured friend:
James Pennington was born near Bryan, Texas at Port Noches on July 12, 1934 to a large family (I think 14 children). Jim served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s, and later married Theda Hail, an IPHC preacher's daughter.
James attended and graduated from Southwestern Christian University. He pastored churches in California, Texas, Washington State and New York City. He served as Superintendent of the Northwest and Golden West Conferences. James served as assistant to the General Superintendent, Bishop J. Floyd Williams for more than 12 years and also served as the director of People to People ministries. James R. Pennington is a recognized as Bishop, Dr. of Ministry and Ordained Minister of the Gospel. Dr. Pennington and his faithful wife Theda have four children, a number grand children and great grand children. Big Jim, as close friends often called him, was a master preacher and leader and a devoted family man. No better Christian servant ever followed Christ and served his family than James R. Pennington. Hugh I hope this will help.
Wow, What a tremendous help Brother Leroy Baker has given to me and to you my readers.
Should I get any further word on James Pennington before I go to bed, I will come back to this article and include it.
In the meantime, Theda Pennington is on dialysis. According to her family, she is holding her own. For me, at least, that means we must intercede for her before the throne room of Heaven. God stills heals and makes completely whole, May God bless Theda and her family that are gathered in these last hours before James passes on to the next world where God is and Jesus Christ is present.
