The Rev. Mr. David Ray Richardson, Sr. The Rev. David Ray Richardson, Sr., 74, of Andrews, SC, beloved husband of Donna (Hancock) and widower of Barnell (Floyd) went to be with the Lord on Friday evening, September 9, 2016. He ministered for over 52 years in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
For the past 27 years, he served the Holy Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in Andrews, SC, in the community of Puncheon Creek, and as the Andrews District Elder in the South Carolina Conference IPHC. David also served several other pastorates throughout his ministerial career: Ruhamah and Smyrna PHC (Georgia Conference), Willow Oaks PHC, Memphis, TN (Tri-State Conference), Christian Heritage PHC, Daytona Beach, FL and Associate Pastor of Trinity Chapel, St. Augustine, FL (Sonshine Conference). In addition to serving as pastor, David also held numerous leadership positions within the IPHC in each conference.
He was the Lifeliners Director for the Georgia Conference. He served as the Christian Education director for the Tri-State Conference, and was the Secretary of the Sonshine Conference (Florida). He also served as a member of the Executive Council of the South Carolina Conference IPHC, and chaired the Ministerial Credentials Committee. David was born May 2, 1942 in Woodlawn, VA, to the late Rev. Marvin and Mary (Alderman) Richardson. He was one of seven children, raised in a pastor’s home where he learned the value and power of God’s ability to work in one’s life.
He was a 1960 graduate of White Sulphur Springs High School, White Sulphur Springs, W.VA. He earned his associate’s degree from Emmanuel College in 1963, followed by an earned B.S. degree from the University of Georgia in 1965. He also completed post graduate work at the University of Georgia. He taught drafting and industrial arts at Wills High School in Smyrna, GA and was the Cobb County District Teacher of the Year in 1974.
David is survived by his precious wife, Donna; his son, the Rev. David R. Richardson, Jr., (Pastor of Redland Church, IPHC in Advance, NC) and his wife, Traci (Beadles), three step-sons; Brad (Beth) Hancock, of Raleigh, NC, Johnny (Dana) Hancock, of Stedman, NC and Nick (Melissa) Hancock, of Stedman, NC, and “the joy of his life” grandchildren, Kalie Jo and Jaret David Richardson, Gracie, Kensly, Mason, Kennedy, and Kendal Hancock; one brother, the Rev. Edward (Netsy) Richardson, of Wytheville, VA; three sisters, his twin sister Fay (Kenneth) Williams, of Mt. Airy, NC, Sue (Ronald) Adams, of The Rock, GA, and Gale (Bill) Cox, of Simpsonville, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barnell, two sisters, Betty Richardson and Ruth (George) Chassevent. He is highly esteemed and loved by scores of nieces and nephews, whose lives he impacted greatly. He was the epitome of a Christian gentleman, pastor, and friend; and, dearly loved by his family, friends and ministry associates throughout his life.
A Home Going Celebration with Ministerial Honors will be 2 p. m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3709 St. James Road, Lake City, SC.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-9 p. m., Tuesday evening, September 13, 2016 at Holy Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church, 11407 Gapway Road, Andrews, SC.
[Editor's Comment: I met David Richardson, Sr. when I was President of Southwestern College in 1976.
While traveling with the Great Life Singers, he invited our singers and me to his church, Willow Oaks Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Memphis to minister in song, and I brought a message from God's Word. I stayed in the Richardson home and I remember David, Jr. was a small boy. David Richardson was a gracious man, gentle, and full of the Holy Spirit. He had an excellent spirit and his love for people was evident and most impressive. Over the years our paths have crossed many times. I was the pastor to his sister, Ruth Richardson Chassevent, who passed away seven months ago. Ruth was a beautiful Christian lady who had the gift of giving, mercy, and benevolence. Our love, condolences, and prayers go out to the family of David Richardson, Sr. David is an uncle to our new pastor Matt Adams. His mother, Sue, is a sister to David Richardson. She is married to Ronald Adams of Mountain Gap or the Rock, Georgia.]
