Melvine, Greg and I watched the memorial service for Nancy Reagan, the former First Lady of the United States. The list of dignitaries was most impressive. All former First Ladies since the Presidency of Jimmy Carter were present with the exception of Barbara Bush. Only one former President was in attendance and that was George W. Bush.
I was personally pleased to see and hear the 1st Marine Division Band, Marine Corps Camp Pendleton, California.
Diane Sawyer spoke briefly and read a passage of Scripture recorded in John 14:1-6.
Others who spoke and gave reflections of the life of Nancy Reagan were: James A Baker, Tom Brokaw, Pattie Davis, Ronald Prescott Reagan. In addition, a letter from Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan was read by former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney
I was impressed with the Rev. Mr. Stuart A. Kenworthy, Vicar, Washington National Cathedral, who presided over the funeral. I was overjoyed when he read one of my favorite benedictions recorded in Hebrews 13:20-21, "Now the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen" (KJV). I noted that he did not leave out or omit the phrase . . . "through the blood of the everlasting covenant." The Gospel was proclaimed, and I do rejoice.
