Mount Olive, NC--Coming off a thrilling win against Belmont Abbey, the expectations for this game were set high. The Emmanuel's men basketball team were able to adjust and overcome adversity, to win against Mount Olive University 71-67.
From the opening tip, the two teams established momentum and pace. The Lions were able to play good defense and provide defense by players such as Kurtis Robinson and Kendrick Colvin, which forced contested shots from the Trojans. However, the Trojans utilized players like Mike Moore more and Dontrell Brite to offensively overcome the Lions defense. As a result the Trojans closed the first half 31 to 26.
In the second half, the Lions came out looking to overcome the deficit from the first half with some buckets to fall. Surprisingly the Lions weren't able to adjust as fast as they needed to create a lead. For over 15 minutes the Trojans continued to knock down buckets helping them keep the lead.
Down to the last minutes of the game, the Lions fought their way back into the game and Emerson McClung put the Lions in the lead. The fight still wasn't over as the Trojans shot a three making it 67-67. With under a minute to go Austin Green shot and made both free throws to help the Lions finish the game with a 71-67 victory.
With this victory the Lions are now 9-4 overall 5-2 in the conference. The Emmanuel Lions will continue action on January 16th at Lees-McRae. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m.
