Sumter, SC–The EC Tennis Team started their Fall Season at the Palmetto Tennis Championships. All Conference Carolina's schools were invited for the individual tournament this weekend.
Emmanuel had a very good run with Braden Anglin and David Forehand getting 3 straight wins after dropping a very close match by 8-7 (7-4) to Southern Wesleyan's Sandoval/Bolivar. The EC duo formed by Seniors defeated Zuhr/Fields (Lees McRae) by 8-6, Rowzie/Moore (Belmont Abbey) by 8-4, and Pardo/Rapsik (Belmont Abbey) by 8-4.
Another duo who found their best tennis after an early defeat was Cody Norris and Mason White. The doubles team made their way to the final match of the back draw, where they were defeated by a close 8-6 to Pfeiffer's Speight/Louw.
In singles play, Enrique Alcacer got a win over Stan Grzoslo (Southern Wesleyan) in a third set super tie break, 5-7 6-1 10-5. The Freshman Dustin Dodson got his first collegiate win over Thomas Pardo (Belmont Abbey) by 6-3 6-4 while David Forehand also capture a win over Blaise Waters (Belmont Abbey) by a confident 6-3 6-1. Braden Anglin earned a win over Charles Jabaley (King) by 6-1 0-2 (ret).
Head Coach, Kethan Darbar, commented, "The team is looking better this year, that is for sure. We had a much stronger run than in the past and we will only get better as we through the season. The boys are hitting the ball well, especially the new players. The doubles team are syncing and everyone is able to play long matches if they have to."
After competing for three days, the Lions will not have a long rest since they are hosting Anderson University this coming Tuesday, the 20th. First serve is scheduled for 1 p. m.
