Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College men's basketball team took on Conference Carolina opponent Mount Olive on Saturday. Coming off a 7 game win streak, the Lions suffered a tough loss to the Trojans, falling just 3 points short.
The first half saw a dominant Emmanuel performance with 40 points compared to just 23 from Mount Olive. With a 3 pointer from Steven Guinchard and a big dunk from Zach Lillie, the Lions momentum started rolling early on in the game. Coming back from half time, the Trojans utilized the diversity of their offense, quickly closing the gap on the scoreboard. With 7:19 left in the game, the score was tied 58-58. A few more layups gave Mount Olive the lead until a layup from Elijah Robinson tied the score back at 69-69. With 21 seconds left in the game, Mount Olive answered with a three-pointer that the Lions were unable to return, ending the game 72-69.
The Lions were led by Elijah Robinson with 15 points and 9 rebounds. This was the first conference loss for the Lions putting them at 3-1. Competition will continue for Emmanuel Friday, January 8th in another conference game at Pfieffer.
