Join hundreds of other alumni and friends of Southwestern Christian University for the extravaganza of all homecomings in the amazing history of this extraordinary institution of Christian higher education that will be held Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, 2015. If you will click the name of the university in red letters above you will download a full flyer of events that you can print out.
Meanwhile, let me copy and paste for you the best loved of events, the Singing Reunion. Rita Williams-Tate will once again be the host for this hymn singing. A blue bird has whispered in my ear that Lonnie and Betty Rex will be present to play one of the pianos for the singing, and they will do a twin piano musical arrangement of some of their popular Gospel songs. Lonnie and Betty Rex have thrilled audiences all across the United States with their celebrated twin grand piano concerts. Let me give you a hyperlink so you can see Lonnie and Betty Rex interviewed on the Herman & Sharon Bailey television show, It's Time, with their wonder dog, Matti. Click Here to watch this amazing interview about Lonnie's book, My Amazing Adventures with God. It's a page turner book, one you can't put down. Lonnie honored me by asking me to write the Foreword to this incredible book of real life stories about what God can do through a boy who was paralyzed because of Polio as a child. God has raised Lonnie Rex, the son of a Pentecostal Holiness pastor and church leader, to bless the world. His father was the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Rex, who was an assistant general superintendent of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was the executive director of both Evangelism and World Missions Ministries, as well as Vice Chairman of the IPHC. Robert L. Rex was noted for being a friend to young pastors and church leaders..
Then, let me give you another hyperlink so you can watch and hear Lonnie and Betty Rex play two 9 foot Baldwin concert twin pianos. Click Here to see them. They are for real. I met Lonnie and Betty Rex in Washington DC at the National Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1954 when Ray Stewart was the pastor. Later, Walter J. Nash succeeded Ray Stewart. James, Bill, and Marshall were there three sons. Marshall was a student at American University where he was majoring in business administration as I recall. I was a young Marine at Quantico Marine Base, Virginia, about 33 miles from the church. I used to hitchhike to go to our Pentecostal Holiness /Church. Lonnie and Betty have been dear friends ever since. He helped me to raise money for Southwestern College when I was president. I often seek his wise counsel with regard to the finances of Hugh's News. He is one of the best non-profit fund-raisers who ever lived. He is a true and trusted friend. I wish Melvine and I could be there in Bethany, Oklahoma this weekend for the homecoming of Southwestern Christian University. I thank God for the privilege He gave me to serve this great university. I was honored to follow two great men of God who were outstanding educators and administrators: Dr. R. O. Corvin and Dr. W. R. Corvin. They were my friends as long as they lived and served God and our church. I honor their memory this day, as well as the men who followed me. I want to go on record to bless Dr. Reggies Wenyika whom God has prepared and placed as our president for such a time as this. May God grant him and his wife and family wisdom and glowing health (Daniel 2:23, The Living Bible).
And, I am grateful for the many friends we were able to make during my brief tenure as president of Southwestern College. There is no greater investment than in giving to educate our youth. It is an investment that will outlast time itself.
