Athletic Director Nate Moorman announces the hiring of Shayla Moore as the first head coach of the Emmanuel College Acrobatics & Tumbling team, concurrently making her the first NCAA Acrobatics & Tumbling coach in the state of Georgia.
Coach Moore comes to EC from NCAA Division 1 Baylor University, where she was a 4-time NCATA National Champion and 2-time NCATA All-American. She was named the NCATA Freshman of the Year in 2015 en route to Baylors first ever national championship. During her tenure at Baylor, Moore had multiple event qualifier championships each year at nationals in duo, trio, and quad tumbling events. Additionally, she was an individual event final champion in 5 and 6 element acro events.
Moore specialized as a tumbler but was very versed in the top, mid level, and bottom positions. In addition to specializing in combination tumbling passes, she has been competing at the highest level of competition cheerleading for the past 15 years, including a stint on a World Champion Team in 2010. Her well-roundedness in cheerleading, gymnastics, tramp n tumble, and other disciplines will allow her to develop student-athletes from all different backgrounds.
"I am excited to make history as we start the inaugural season of Acrobatics and Tumbling at Emmanuel College," Coach Moore said. "This is a huge opportunity for many student athletes with tumbling and gymnastics backgrounds as they transition to the collegiate level."
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Moore graduated from Johns Creek High School before receiving her Sociology degree with a minor in Forensic Science from Baylor University in 2018. Moore is currently a competitive weightlifter with team Power and Grace Performance with hopes to some day make an Olympic team.
"We are thrilled to announce our hire of Shayla Moore as our programs first head coach," Athletic Director Nate Moorman said. "Coach Moore is an extremely accomplished Acro & Tumbling athlete with a wealth of knowledge and experience gained under Baylor head coach Felecia Mulkey. It was clear to us throughout the hiring process that her intent to develop young women into empowering leaders will make her an excellent addition."
