I have known Ron Carpenter, Jr. since he was a student at Emmanuel College. He came to Emmanuel our Stephanie's second year. John Todd, a gifted and anointed evangelist from Florida, came for a revival. He walked out into the audience as he so often did. He walked up to Ron and said, "Young man, are you a sinner." Ron, responded immediately by saying, "No Sir, I am a forward." Ron was a member of the men's basketball team.
John Todd began to prophesy over Ron. The student body could not believe what was told about this young man who was running away from God. Stephanie told us about it, and just about everything has come true about him. Ron built a large church in Greenville, and now has moved to California to pastor another large church. Whenever Melvine and I are home on Sundays we endeavor to watch Ron. Ron is an excellent preacher and he proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I have signed on to a daily video with Ron--Monday through Friday. On Friday's video he offered a prayer, and this prayer may be just want you need in relationship to your family members:
Ron Carpenter's Prayer
Father in Jesus' name, there’s nothing that hurts like being fragmented from someone we care about. There’s nothing that hurts like being hurt by someone that meant a lot to us. And whether these situations are over something frivolous or whether they are deep rooted or long lasting, it doesn’t matter. You are the God that has the ability to heal and I ask that you move deep into the heart and the mind of people that may be holding on to bitter roots. Those that are angry and still living out things that happened months and even years ago. And I pray that the grace and the mercy of God would begin to flood hearts and that you have begun to mend fences and rebuild lives and relationships again. I ask you because I believe you have the power to do it and we believe you in Jesus name, Amen!
Melvine, Greg, Stephanie and I were at Ron Carpenter, Jr.'s church, Redemption World Outreach Center, when he dedicated it to God. Shirley Spencer had asked me to cover the story because of a previous commitment she had made and couldn't be there. It was a joy to cover that service and it was published in Encourage magazine.
A few years later, Ron went on Trinity Broadcasting Network and he asked me to write that story. So, Melvine and I traveled again to Greenville to cover it. As I recall, the story was published in Encourage magazine.
I had the privilege of working with Ron's father, Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr., for 12 years when I was director/endorser of Chaplains Ministries, and a member of Evangelism USA Board (today, we call it a council). Dr. Carpenter, Sr. was the chairman of Chaplain Ministries Board, and the executive director of Evangelism USA. This ws prior to his being elected to be the General Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Unfortunately, I am not in touch with Ron, nor Nan, his mother, although I had attempted to do so. I wanted to encourage him as a fellow minister of the Gospel and let him know that I believe his father would be very proud of him.
