There is no doubt about it, the Apostle Paul was a Pentecostal. He was so eager to get to Jerusalem by Pentecost that he was willing to bypass Ephesus to get there on time. Perhaps he was able to charter a private ship to carry him to the coast of Israel to travel to Jerusalem. He apparently had missed several weeks from Passover to Pentecost.
At any rate, He wanted to bring the special offering from the Western churches he had taken for the poor saints in Jerusalem. Pentecost seemed to be the ideal time to bring this offering to demonstrate the love of other Christian brothers and sisters, as well as validate his apostleship.
Paul sent word for the elders of Ephesus for them to make the trip of about 40 miles to meet with him in Miletus. He says he was compelled the Spirit to go to Jerusalem at this time. He believed that unfavorable winds and stormy weather could prevent him for achieving his mission.
I love Paul's message to the Ephesus elders. He said, "For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God" (KJV). May God help us who are ministers of the Gospel in the International Pentecostal Holiness to declare all the counsel of God. That is my goal as the editor of Hugh's News.
Today, in the 21st Century, many of us feel an urgency to return to our churches to worship God after be homebound because of the corona virus. Pentecost Sunday is indeed the ideal time. I have been informed that our church in Athens will be having worship on the parking lot at 10:45 a.m. Christian Life Worship Center is located at 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, GA. Our pastor is Chaplain Pastor Terry Kesling. His grandfather, W.W. Carter was the superintendent of the Virginia Conference, and at one time over Foreign Missions for our denominations. He and his wife were friends of my parents. I met him once while growing up.
We will drive in and park our cars. I sense this is wisdom on the part of our pastor and church council. I, for one, am almost 88 years old and have diabetes (God is helping me bring it under control). My family doctor placed me under quarantine several months ago. I will have a mask and surgical gloves in the car should I need them. I have been going to doctors appointments without any problems. It will be good to see the people I know and love and to worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
Greg shops for us and goes here and there and thus far has not gotten the virus or brought it home.
When you pray, please remember us in your prayers.
