Many years ago when I started to attend prayer meetings on campus at Boston College and the “A.C.T.S.” prayer model was presented to Christian students as a way to help stay focused while praying. I believe the model originally came from the Billy Graham resource center.
The following is the prayer model we used for the prayer meeting Thursday, December 31, 2015, at our church:
Adoration – “Praise be to God!” (Psalms 68:35)
Confession -- "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9)
Thanksgiving – Always “glorify him with thanksgiving” (Psalms 69:30)
Supplication – “Make your requests known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
On Sunday, December 27, 2015, I called our congregation (Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, Georgia) to start the new year (January 2016) with 21 days of prayer and fasting. It is to give God our “first portion” of the new year. Throughout Scripture I see the children of God called to place His Kingdom first in their lives: “Bring the best of the first fruits of your soil to the house of the Lord…” (Exodus 34:26), “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops…” (Proverbs 3:9), “But seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33).
I was surprised and encouraged to discover that our IPHC Superintendent, Dr. Doug Beacham, called the entire denomination to a 21 day fast in January as well. Excitement seems to be building as we kick off this special time in our church.
Hope this helps...
Blessings,
Brad Cooper
[Editor's note: Melvine, Greg, and I were blessed to be a part of the prayer meeting on New Years Eve when the saints of our church gathered to pray with our pastor, Brad Cooper. After a time of singing our pastor led us in a deeply moving prayer service. He presented the above "A.C.T.S. model for prayer. He gave us opportunity to pray sentence prayers as we focused on each of the four elements for our prayer time. We believe with our pastor that true revival begins in the hearts of God's people. We are joining with our pastor and our congregation in a 21 Day Fast with believing prayer. We ask that you remember us in your daily prayers as well. We welcome revival in our hearts and in our church.
I callled Pastor Brad Cooper on New Year;s Day and asked him to share what he has written above for you to read. I want to you know what God is doing in our church. We are all excited and thrilled about the direction our pastor is leading us. If you want to be a part of what God is doing in our church in Athens, Georgia, I encourage you to join us this coming Sunday.
Our Sunday school begins at 9:50 a. m. and our morning worship at 10:50 a. m.
