“I awakened this morning to the news that the Reverend Billy Graham has entered heaven's portals at the age of 99. He was a man of great integrity, a man not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a man committed to the authority of the Bible, a man of the Spirit of God, a man who understood the power of divine love revealed in the Gospel, a man who walked along the tensions and fault lines between human governments and divine authority, a man used by God to bring millions to Christ in the 20th century.
He loved to encourage younger evangelists. It was his call at Lausanne that led to numerous global gatherings of evangelists, usually from 2/3 world nations. Ernest Turner and I were privileged to attend such a gathering in Cape Town nearly 10 years ago. With great joy we saw the networking and encouragement that occurred because of Billy Graham's vision, heart, and passion for Christ.
As the IPHC focus this year is on our core value, We Prayerfully Value All Generations, we pause to give thanks for Billy Graham and the countless others, unknown to most, but known to God, who have faithfully lived and preached the Gospel. We pause to ask the Holy Spirit to move afresh among a new generation who will take the mantle of the Word of truth and declare it with grace, truth, and love.”
