Navy Chaplain Adam Erwin has earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, SC. He will be awarded this highly earned degree at their May 2016 Commencement exercises. The Rev. Dr. Erwin's dissertation was entitled "The Creeping Death: Combating Compassion Fatigue in Behavioral Health Unit Staff."
Adam is a Chaplain in the US Navy Reserve, holding the rank of Lieutenant (O-3) [equalevent to the rank of Captain in the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force, and is currently assigned as the Deputy Fleet Chaplain of the US Sixth Fleet and as the Command Chaplain of DET802 of Naval Forces Europe/Africa. This high position is normally reserved for Navy Captains (full colonels). He is ordained in the LifePoint Ministries conference. He was present wearing the summer white dress Navy Officer uniform with ribbons at the annual conference held yesterday in Athens, Georgia, at Christian Life Worship Center.
Chaplain Erwin holds a Master of Ministry from the IPHC’s Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, OK and a Bachelor of Science from The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. He completed his Internship and his Residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at AnMed Health of Anderson, SC. He is also a graduate of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) School in Oberammergau, Germany and Winthrop University's End-of-Life Program.
Adam’s advisor was the Director of the D. Min. program, Dr. Loyd Melton, Ph.D. Adam was blessed many times by God in that the Seminary is less than 20 minutes from his home, and that they added all of his military and hospital chaplaincy training to his degree, meaning that when he started the program he was already halfway finished! We call that God's Favor.
Dr. Erwin lives in Honea Path, SC with his wife, the Rev. Mrs. Kuhiwa Erwin, and their son Alrich. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Stuart and Karen Erwin of Dewy Rose, GA and the grandson of Mrs. Betty Erwin and Mrs. Juanita Seigler, and of the late Mr. Charles Erwin and the late Mr. Charles Seigler. He is also the son-in-law of Rev. Mr. Ted and Mrs. Tammy Coody, pastor of Greenville First PHC in Greenville, NC.
We are extremely proud of Adam Erwin and his continued education where he has earned his doctor's degree.
