My Tribute to Bishop Gordon McDonald
Author: Greg Morgan
I was a missionary to Budapest, Hungary in the early 1990s. I had a special assignment, I was a tentmaker missionary, now called bi-vocational missionary. I taught English in a high school and led the singing as we went street witnessing.
While I was in Budapest, we didn’t get very many visitors in spite of the fact that Hungary has a rich history and is a beautiful country. My missionary friends in London, Rome, and Berlin were the ones who got frequent visitors and pilgrims who wanted to take short term missions trips with them.
However, when I was in Hungary, Bishop Gordon McDonald, of Vancouver, British Columbia, came to visit. Roni Pruitt, still a missionary, Marlene Durr (a missionary who is now deceased) and I were treated to a marvelous lunch by Brother McDonald. He treated us to some scrumptious goulash, Hungarian soup at the Hilton Inn in the exclusive Castle District.
He engaged us in great conversation and we gave him a personal tour of the city.
A few years ago when mom, dad, and I were privileged to attend the 5th IPHC Global Summit in Hong Kong, May 6-8, 2015. in Hong Kong, Bishop McDonald was there. It was a great pleasure to see him and talk to him again. I really loved his sense of humor. He was my kind of guy!
I will greatly miss him, but I am glad that he is in heaven.
Please pray for his wife and three sons.
God bless you,
Greg
