Melvine has a very small skin cancer on her nose. Today, Thursday, December 27, a surgeon from Atlanta will come to Athens to remove it in the office of her dermatologist.
Melvine will have Mohs surgery. This procedure is for recurring or difficult-to-treat skin cancers, which may include both basal and squamous cell carcinomas. Melvine's cancer is basal. It's often used in areas where it's necessary to conserve as much skin as possible, such as on the nose.
During Mohs surgery, Melvine's doctor will remove the skin growth layer by layer, examining each layer under the microscope, until no abnormal cells remain. This procedure allows cancerous cells to be removed without taking an excessive amount of surrounding healthy skin.
Melvine's surgery is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Melvine requests your prayers for her and her surgeon who will remove the cancer cells. We pray that the surgeon will have to remove very little skin to get it all.
We are so grateful to God for what He is doing to heal Melvine. Melvine's faith is in Jesus Christ the Great Physician and Savior of the World.
May God bless Melvine as she undergoes to this surgery today.
