Apparently Dr. Jane Huang anticipated Melvine's progressive need for pain medication. She told me that the oxycodone 5 mg will wear off after 4 hours, and that I could give her another pill to alleviate her pain. Sure enough it is happening quicker than I thought.
I know now that I had a lot of assumptions about Hospice Care. Hospice does not cover all medications, and as long as the nurse comes twice a week, I will continue to give Melvine all her medications and take her vital signs. When the nurse comes she will take Melvine's temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate.
A lady tech will be coming on Tuesdays and Thursdays to give Melvine a shower. We have a built in seat in our shower. This shower twice a week will be a blessing both to Melvine and me.
The chaplain assigned to Melvine came on Friday to get acquainted with Melvine, Greg and me. It is a wonderful thing for Hospice to recognize the spiritual needs of their patients. I was impressed with the young chaplain assigned to Melvine and our family.
I have been thinking about the promises of God for believers starting with the Book of Genesis, the first book in the Old Testament.
Here is a general overview of the promises:
In the first Book of the Bible, Genesis, Jesus is the Seed of the woman: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel. Jesus was born of woman without the seed of man. His natural enemy and ours as well is Satan.
In the Book of Exodus Jesus is the sacrificial Passover Lamb. To every believer He is the Sacrificial Lamb of God. Through the lamb sacrificed in Egypt, the people of God were delivered from the evil grip of the Pharaoh. Through His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary, He offers deliverance to all of God's creation.
In the Book of Leviticus we see Jesus as our High Priest. Just as God's children were instructed to bring their blood offering to the priests, we are to accept Jesus as our blood offering and He will offer it up to God the Father.
In the Book of Numbers Jesus was the Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire that guided Gods people through the wilderness. He is also the Lord and Savior Who is there willing to guide us through the wilderness of our lives.
In Deuteronomy Jesus is the Prophet like unto Moses. He inspired every prophecy that was made in the Bible and He was also the One Living God Who fulfilled the prophecies.
In the 5th chapter of the Book of Joshua we see Joshua confronted by the Captain of the Host: And he said, “Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come.” For us, as well, Jesus will aid you in the battles that we face here on earth.
In the Book of Judges, Jesus is the Lawgiver. Father God conceived the Law and spoke it through the Holy Word of God.
In the Book of Ruth Jesus is our Kinsman’s Redeemer.
In 1st and 2nd Samuel Jesus is our Trusted Prophet.
In Kings and Chronicles Jesus is our Reigning King
Jesus is our Faithful Scribe in the Book of Ezra.
In Nehemiah we see Jesus as the Rebuilder of the walls that were broken down.
I have memorized a lot of Scripture in my lifetime of 86 almost 87 years. One I like to quote is recorded in Psalms 118:17:
17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
KJV
At this stage in Melvine's battle with ovarian cancer, I have not felt released to quote it, although I would like do so and claim it for Melvine. God may give her this rhema Word and I will then affirm it. When two people agree and believe a certain Scripture there is great power in that Word.
I must confess, I do not have the Word given to me from God for Melvine.
What I am praying is God's Will and for His Kingdom to come in Melvine's life and in mine.
Whether Melvine lives or dies she is a winner. If she lives, Christ will live in Her. If she dies, she will go ahead of me and be in heaven in the twinkling of an eye.
In the meantime, I am reminded of what Jesus said to His disciples in John 14:
John 14:1-3
14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
KJV
We eagerly await going to heaven. I have read about it in the Bible and I have had many dreams in my sleep about that place we all want to go when we die.
May I ask you a question? Are your ready to die?
Today, Saturday, August 24, I got a call from a man who told me he was dying. He sounded awfully weak. I asked him if he were ready to meet God. Amos 4:12 is clear. It says, "Prepare to meet Thy God." This man told me he was ready to die and go to heaven. His trust is in Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. I had brief prayer with him.
Later I talked with a man who is an ordained minister. He is dying, too, and is ready to meet God.
I ask that you remember Melvine, Greg, and me in your prayers.
