When Monday arrived at 7 o'clock I was dead asleep. I had asked Bonnie Bender to give me a call. I did not want to answer that call and just go back to sleep.
I couldn't do that regardless of my felt need for sleep.
I got up, went to the bathroom, washed my hands and face, got some cereal with fresh blue berries and milk in a paper bowl for my breakfast. I ate that and enjoyed it. I went back our bathroom and took my medications. I didn't have time to take Melvine's or my vital signs. I took a shower, skipped shaving, and got ready to roll.
Bonnie called again and came over to help Melvine get dressed. I did give Melvine all of her medications when she got up.
We were running late. We left a little after nine, and had to be there at 9:30. God gave us every green light, and traffic was light and we were able to move fast, and above the speed limit. We made it, just a few minutes late.
I had to fill out a lot of paperwork for Melvine and get her to sign it. The name I was given for the doctor doesn't exist. The doctor we saw is Dr. Pitts. We had to go through a number of people who did various tests with Melvine to observe how her mind and speech functions.
We were amazed and laughed as Melvine asked questions of the persons who quizzed Melvine. She pushed back and show her barley oats. Her intelligence and wit made our day much more exciting. She was fully alive in her spirit and her mind was sharp.
Melvine could answer most of the questions with accuracy, and follow the instructions they gave her to touch her nose with her left or right hand, count the fingers moving in the left or right hand of the questioner.
When asked what season of the year are we in, she struggled to give the answer, and said "summer" instead of "spring." Melvine knew that the day of the month of 25, but said it was April or May, instead of March. Her eyes were bright and full of life.
We were not told what to expect or how long it would take. We were there at least two hours maybe more.
But wait, there is more. Melvine is scheduled to have an EEG exam on her brain on the 16th of April. That will take an hour and a half.
This Wednesday, she will have her 3rd MRI on her brain. The first two were negative, and we hope this one will be too.
Friday, we will meet with Dr. Jane Huang, and have lab work on Friday. There is never any let up.
Melvine, Bonnie Bender, and I went to the Cracker Barrel for brunch. Melvine ordered chicken livers, green beans, and mashed potatoes with brown gravy with corn bread. Bonnie ordered four veggies. However, I wanted breakfast food. I got the Sampler: it had two large pancakes, two lighted scrambled eggs, a slice of bacon, a round sausage patty, country ham and a potato casserole. I ordered 2% milk. Their pancakes taste like what my mother used to cook for us. Good.
I asked our waitress if she were married. She responded by saying "I have a girl friend." I knew I had my work laid out before me. I prayed and asked for help. I felt I should give her the Billy Graham blessing, and because of her exceptional service to us, I gave a 20% tip. I let her know that God loves her and has a plan for her life. I was planting seed.
Continue to pray for Melvine, Greg, and me. I need it to be patient with Melvine. I am learning I have to move at her pace, and that I don't want her in the kitchen. I will take care of the food and drink. Although Melvine knows how to operate her Keurig Coffee machine, she stood there and was not getting it going. I never make coffee, but I helped Melvine to have a cup of hot coffee. She stood there and would not put Hazelnut creamer in her coffee. Finally, she did, after I reminded her that she had complained that Cracker Barrel didn't served flavored coffee and now she will not follow through to put creamer in her coffee.
Sam Bender worked on the feet of Melvine's La Z Boy recliner when we got home. It is now firm and will not rock and roll. It will not tump or dump her out on the floor as she has fallen twice on her bottom. Bonnie bought a rug to place under it to keep it from sliding on the hardwood floors.
Melvine got in her recliner when Sam finished his work on it. Bonnie covered her with her blanket and she went to sleep. And so did I. We slept for two or three hours. When I awakened I noticed that Bonnie had folded our underwear. I have never seen it folded as small and neat as she had folded it.
Well, we praise God for all our friends He has given us to help us in our golden years.
Have a good day.
Your friend in all seasons,
Hugh
