Melvine had a full and demanding day. We awakened at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019. A telephone call got us out of bed. It was from St. Mary’s Hospital. They had a cancellation and Melvine could have her procedures at 2 rather than 5 p. m. I immediately called Bonnie Patch Bender to see if that was okay for her. She had volunteered to take Melvine to the hospital. She responded by saying she could do it. So, I called the tech at St. Mary’s to verify the time.
Jeanette Herndon Phillips and her husband Ken were coming to our home around 10. They brought bales of long leaf pine straw to spread in various areas of our yard where we have knock out rose bushes, crape myrtle trees, two maple trees, and shrubbery. What a magnificent job they did. In addition, Ken removed a dead Rose of Sharon tree near our metal barn, and replaced it with another alive and healthy Rose of Sharon I had planted some 18 or 19 years ago in a wooded area of our property. It had never developed properly due to the shade of other hardwood trees. It has the most beautiful purple flowers you have ever seen during the summer months. And purple was our Stephanie’s favorite color. This flowering tree will come into its own where there is plenty of room to grow and drink up sunshine and rain.
Jeanette came to stay with Melvine while I was at my urologist’s office. She is like a daughter to Melvine and me. She brought a container of vegetable soup and made us ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches fit for a king or queen. In addition, she made us her delicious congealed dessert with strawberries. It is yummy good.
My appointment with Dr. Gary Walton, a urologist, went well. He has a solution to my problem and will run a test on me on February 21. It that goes well, he will do the procedure under an anesthetic at a later date called a Botox. I am not sure of the spelling of that word. I did not see It in print. However, you can know this, I will research it and read everything I can about it. If it will help me with my problem, I am ready to get it done.
On Wednesday, January 30, I will have eyelid surgery to pull up drooping eyelids. My left eyelid reminds me of the drooping ear of a Basset Hound. This condition has affected my eyesight. Now, I will be able to stay awake when my pastor preaches. My activities will be curtailed for a few days. Bonnie Bender will come and take me in my car and bring me home following surgery. Our good friend Claudia Strickland will stay with Melvine while I am gone for surgery. I need your prayers that my surgeon will do his best and that the surgery will be successful. I need Jesus to touch my eyes.
Meanwhile, following eating our lunch in our Florida Room, Bonnie came to take Melvine to St. Mary’s Hospital a little after 1 p. m. Bonnie had it all planned out. She was able to temporarily park as the waiting patient section, commandeered a wheelchair to get Melvine in the area where she would check in. She got a man by the name of Mike to help her.
Melvine said the MRI for her brain was nosy and long lasting. She thought the noises of banging, and knocking, and hammering would never end. It lasted about 30 minutes. She declined to have ear plugs which would have cut down on the level of the noise. I never turn down the ear plugs.
The X-rays of her chest went well. That was a piece of cake.
We will learn of the results of these tests on Friday when we see Dr. Jane Huang, Melvine’s oncologist. We are believing we will get a good report. Our God can do far above and beyond all we could ever imagine, hope for and ask Him to do for us. He is a Good God.
Melvine was very tried when she got home from the hospital. She laid on the couch and went to sleep.
Melvine prepared grilled cheese sandwiches and vegetable soup that Jeanette gave us for our supper. It was so good.
Melvine watched her two favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy before retiring for bed.
I made sure she had all of her medications before going to bed.
I stay up and do Hugh's News.
Melvine and I want to thank you all once again for your thoughts and prayers for us. God is at work and we are believing God for as full and complete healing of Melvine's body. Dr. Huang told us that this ovarian cancer is Potentially Curable. I receive that good word and pray that it will be so.
May God bless you and your family.
Let me leave you with the Billy Graham benediction:
