The aroma of baking pecan pies, cornbread, and the turkey breast in the Crock Pot filled our home with the familiar scents of Christmas cooking. There is nothing quite like down home cooking. Melvine is the best of the best.
Melvine was determined and committed to preparing for our family of three with a Christmas feast. She is undoubtedly one of the best cooks in the known world.
Greg and I were to help her by chopping up celery and Vidalia onions to put in the cornbread dressing. I was predestined to peel the Idaho potatoes. It had been a long time since I peeled a potato. I peeled four large Idaho potatoes, cut them up, rinse them in cold water, and filled the pot with water. Greg took the pot and placed it on a burner on Melvine's electric stove with an oven.
We has turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes with gravy, Italian green beans, cornbread dressing with gravy, and rolls with butter. The turkey was moist and tender. I know we will have left overs for several meals.
Melvine outdid her herself. Her heart is as big as gold and she holds back nothing in her preparations for a Christmas feast. Unfortunately, I think she will pay for it. She was tired and weary when the sun went down. I gave her the medications her doctors have prescribed, took her blood sugar and blood pressure.
Greg gave Melvine and me a number of gifts. Melvine and I were not able to go shopping but Melvine and I will give him money and buy him some clothes as well as other things for which he needs money.
Melvine announced she was going to bed. I told her I love her and she told me she loves me. I have told her for over 58 years that I love her on a daily basis. She has been in bed a couple or more hours. I will be going to our bedroom shortly. I am tired.
I will have to get up early to see my family physician. I need her medical advice and directions. She is an excellent doctor and thorough. She doesn't miss a thing. We are blessed to have good doctors in our area and several hospitals.
