The turnaround in Melvine’s life has been remarkable, even miraculous.
Only God could have brought such healing to Melvine’s body, mind, and spirit. We are confident that Melvine's healing and recovery is due to your prayers, the readers and friends of Hugh's News.
Melvine wanted to show her respects to Rachel Howard Sorrow and her family. In addition, she longed to see the people who would gather at the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church to honor James A. Sorrow. It was a blessing for Melvine and me to be there today.
Jeanette Herndon Phillips came to our home early enough to help Melvine with her makeup, jewelry, etc. Jeanette’s discovery of Melvine’s dark eyebrows coming back greatly delights her. She notices a sparkle in Melvine dark brown eyes. Melvine is back and has rejoined the human race.
Jeanette drove us in my car, a 2010 Lincoln Continental Town Car. It now has 80,000 miles. It drives and rides like a dream car. Jeanette is a good diver and gets us where we need to go and knows how to maneuver our rollator walkers and place them in and take them out of the large trunk.
The funeral directors of Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston were there and they met us and helped us with our walkers. They especially showed kindness to Melvine. Those men are professionals and show compassion with grace.
It was a perfect day. The temperature was 82 with no humidity. It was ideal weather and so fitting to have a funeral and graveside services.
When we walked in, we were greeted by men of the church. One well known man was Keith Hearn. Rick Sorrow was walking towards us and we gave each other bear hugs. There was Dr. G. Earl Beatty and Pastor Harrison Lampley welcoming everyone as we walked up to the front of the church where the casket was located. There was Rachel Howard Sorrow seated to the right of the open casket with an American flag on the top right. Rachel looked beautiful in a lovely black dress. Her hair is a beautiful white in color and in perfect order with appropriate makeup and jewelry. She and James have had a successful marriage of almost 30 years.
There was Bill Beatty and his wife on the left side of the casket. I had not seen them in years. It was wonderful seeing Christy Beatty Sorrow. She looked beautiful. There was Nancy Beatty sitting in a pew near the altar area. Nancy is a very special Christian lady.
I wish I had time to name all the people who were there. I would say the church was about half full. Many of those who came told me how much they love to get Hugh’s News, and they would not have known about the funeral except through Hugh’s News.
Melvine was shown love by all who knew her and wanted to see her. Melvine was stunningly beautiful and knew everyone by name. Sadie McGraw Presley was there. Her daughter, Lynn and her husband were there. I got to talk with Levi Moore. He told me that he had known me for a long, long time and that he met me many years ago when I pastored the Birmingham Pentecostal Holiness Church.
I wanted to see the Mighty Russell Sorrow. I have loved that 6 foot 3 inch guy since he was a little boy. He was always big and tough as boys are. He is getting married next month. He is actively involved in ministry as the media person for their television in Dallas in a mega church.
Kyle and Callie spoke on behalf of the family and they did a superb job in describing their grandfather, James Sorrow.
Pastor Harrison Lampley did a great job describing his relation with James Sorrow as his pastor and friend. He related an interesting story about fishing for trout in the mountain streams of north Georgia.
Dr. G. Earl Beatty is a master at whatever he does. His tribute and message were not only fitting, but created an atmosphere for all of us to celebrate the life and ministry of James Sorrow, a committed layman who loved the Lord and His people.
The piano music was the best. Chris Bailey played his trumpet and he is like Gabriel. He has a gift in playing his trumpet.
We learned that Mrs. Inez Hart, wife of the Rev. Mr. Phillip Hart is close to death. She has suffered for many years. I pray that God will release her spirit and soul from her body and take her home to heaven. I know that Brother Phillip will greatly miss her. She has lived a full life -- was an evangelist and a pastor. She and Phillip were the pastors of Flatwoods P. H. Church for some 57 years.
After the funeral, Jeanette drove us to the Cracker Barrel in Athens, and we all ate breakfast foods. They have the best pancakes in the known world. I got Grandma’s special with two eggs scrambled lighted, crisp bacon, a sausage patty, a piece of country ham, two pancakes with light or sugar free syrup and soft butter, and hash brown casserole, with milk.
Jeanette brought us home, and got in her car and drove to her home in Watkinsville.
