Melvine and I were greatly blessed on Friday afternoon, September 28, 2018, to have a dear friend, Bonnie Patch Bender, a registered nurse, to go with us to see Melvine's oncologist. Bonnie was sitting on the front porch of the doctor's office at University Cancer and Blood Center, near our church, Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, Georgia. I got permission from Melvine's doctor to have Bonnie in the office with us when she talked with us about Melvine's biopsy and CAT scan report.
I had called earlier to request a wheelchair for Melvine. I knew the walking would be tough for her and she would get out of breath and experience more pain. I wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. Bonnie went inside the entrance and found a wheelchair and came to get Melvine. Bonnie said, "Pastor, I will park your car." And she did.
I was with Melvine as she checked in. This is the same doctor's office where our Stephanie went for chemotherapy and radiation. Melvine always gets me to fill out the paperwork. Although my gift is administration, I hate all the paperwork. They asked the same questions over and over again, and there is so much to read before you sign your name. I had to ask Melvine several questions to fill it all out. She signed and I dated it for her.
Melvine had instructed me that she wanted to do the talking and ask the doctor the questions she wanted to ask. Melvine is a realist and she is a master in asking questions. She would have been an excellent lawyer. I obeyed and waiting until the end. I asked a copy of the biopsy and CAT Scan report and got it.
The bottom line is that Melvine has ovarian carcinoma. Melvine, to my surprise already knew a great deal about ovarian cancer. She knew it is one of the most aggressive cancers a female will experience. It is painful.
Dr. Jane Huang, has ordered another CAT scan to look at her chest and lungs. The cancer may have metastasized to that part of her body. She is scheduled to have the CAT scan of her chest on Wednesday of next week. Dr. Huang had a technician to take several vials of blood which she called "blood markers" to learn more about this cancer and to determine what stage it is.
Dr. Huang felt that Hydrocodone was not good for her because of the Tylenol in it that adversely effects the liver. So, she wrote a prescription for Oxycodone. She wants Melvine to be able to take care of her pain level.
Up until a few weeks ago, Melvine has been very active and able to take care of most things. Both Greg and I have learned how to relieve her of many things she automatically does. She is a sharp business lady and takes care of writing all of our checks for the various bills we have. The first thing we do every month is to write checks for our tithe. We have done that all of our married life. God has honored that all these years and has provided for all our needs.
Melvine is so blessed when people send her get-well cards. She looks forward to getting them. They are coming in more and more daily.

Greg came home Friday from Thomson, GA where he teaches music in the Thomson-McDuffie Middle School.
We arrived home from the doctor's office at the same time he arrived.
For the first time in several weeks, we went to Red Lobster for our supper. It was an enjoyable time of talking and eating together.
Melvine told us she knows she will not live much longer, however, she wants to enjoy life and be as active as she can be. She desires to go to Church on Sunday. She was not able to attend Sunday school and church with me last week. It is rare that either one of us misses church on Sundays.
Melvine and I request your prayers for Melvine and me.
We are so grateful for all who have responded to us in our time of need. We believe in prayer and that God hears and answers our prayers according to His Will. We believe that nothing is impossible for those who put their trust in God.
