
Mary Josephine Walters Presley, age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born on September 25, 1932 in Kershaw County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Mr. Joseph Barkley Walters and the late Lessie Hunnicutt Walters, and was the step-daughter of the late Lillian Irby Walters. For fifty-five years, she was the devoted wife of the late Charles Bristoe Presley until his death in 2009.
Mrs. Presley was a graduate of Hartsville High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. She attended and graduated from Emanuel College and then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Presley, along with her husband, Charles, was co-owner of Presley Music House, Inc. in Anderson for twenty-seven years. She was a devoted member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for forty years, assistant pianist, member of the church choir, and was President of Helping Hands.
Survivors include a son, Mike Presley and his wife, Ruth, of Anderson; a daughter, Willette P. Poore and her husband, Jimmy, also of Anderson; two grandchildren, Jeff Presley and his wife, Mandi, of Greer, SC, and Charles Presley and his wife, Ashley, of Las Vegas, NV; and two great-grandsons, Carter and Evan Presley. In addition to her parents, step-mother and her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Jerry Walters, and a sister, Jackie Leviner.
The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Mary Jo Presley will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mr. Brent Lollis and Mr. Harry Osborne officiating. The family will be at the home of Willette and Jimmy Poore, and will receive friends at McDougald Funeral Home following the service. A private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Presley may be made to Helping Hands, Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, 711 Glenn Street, Anderson, SC 29625.
