_This weekend saw a transition take place with the personnel at the DRUSA Mobile Feeding Kitchen. The North Carolina Conference Cooking Team arrived to relieve the South Carolina Team, which had been serving at the Kitchen since being deployed 9 days ago. DRUSA is blessed to have volunteer teams that are committed to the ministry of disaster relief and recovery. Nine days is more than what I would like for a team to serve, particularly considering that they were responsible for the set up as well. However, circumstances being what they were, some adjustments had to be made for this deployment.
Working on a Mobile Feeding Kitchen team requires long hours, hard work and oftentimes, very little sleep in not so favorable conditions. I applaud the South Carolina team for a job well done. Warren Matthews and his team are a tremendous resource and wonderful to serve with during a disaster.|
The North Carolina Team is under the leadership of Gordon Knox (GORDON!), Conference DRUSA Coordinator. The head chef for this week will be Harvey Owens. They have brought together a good number of volunteers from North Carolina. Gordon is very experienced in disaster relief and will keep things running smoothly. Go North Carolina!
The Cornerstone Conference stepped up in a big way for this deployment. They had a team of volunteers serve with the South Carolina team during week one of the deployment. In addition, on Sunday morning, 150 Buckets of Promise unexpectedly arrived on site. The timing for the buckets could not have been better. Early on in this deployment, we received 500 PerCa Kits (personal care kit) from the Women’s Ministries Department of the North Carolina Conference. On Saturday evening, we distributed the last of these kits. Both Perca Kits and Buckets of Promise provide necessary care items for families to use during an emergency. Thank you to both the North Carolina Conference Women's Ministries and Cornerstone DRUSA.
Over the weekend, we were able to serve another 1,312 meals. These next few days will give us some indication on how much longer the Kitchen will be deployed in Kingstree, South Carolina. However, we still need your prayers and financial support. The cost for food is a large expense when feeding in mass care. I am sure that your last trip to the grocery store will confirm that food prices are not going down. If you have any other questions, please direct all inquiries to the DRUSA office at 405.792.7131or via email to Sherrie Taylor.
Again, on behalf of DRUSA and all of our volunteer teams in South Carolina, thank you for your continued prayers and financial generosity. We are able to be in the field, doing what we do for Jesus Christ because of what you do for Jesus Christ. God bless you!
