When I was a student at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY (1960-1963) we were required to take a course of study in Hymnology. We learned about many things and were introduced to hymns I had never heard, but were hymns of the church. We had to recognize the hymn tune of some 50 hymns in the Methodist Hymnal. That was a challenge for me.
We learned the difference between a hymn and a Gospel song.
Today, Tuesday, June 26, we will look at the lyrics of a Gospel song entitled, "Spirit of the Living God fall afresh on me."
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
Melt us, mold us, fill us, use us,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
There is no doubt about it, we all need to have the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity to fall afresh upon us.
Join me in praying that God's Holy Spirit will fall afresh on congregations of churches all over America and other countries this week.

We learned the difference between a hymn and a Gospel song.
- A hymn is an objective song that lifts up God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. It is about God, Who He is.
- A Gospel song is subjective and focuses in on us as God's children, and what God is doing in our lives.
