I'll Be a Sustainer Contributor to Holmes Bible College
Author: Hugh H. Morgan, Editor
When I was a child growing up in the Pentecostal Holiness Church I remember singing a song, "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam." It may be that some of you sang it too as a child learning about Jesus. Here are the lyrics:
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,
To shine for Him each day
In every way try to please Him,
At home, at school, at play.
It occurred to me that Jesus would have us consider prayerfully and with faith becoming a Sustainer Contributor to Holmes Bible College.
You and I can help sustain the college by our financial gift.
I have committed to praying for Holmes Bible College and to giving as God supplies the means. I have given to Holmes Bible College as a Sustainer for this year. I can renew that in 2020 as the Lord directs me to give. I can testify that God did supply the means for me to give to be a Sustainer Contributor to Holmes Bible College.
In President D. Chris Thompson's recent newsletter he wrote the following appeal:
Special Challenge
Holmes moves forward by faith! The College has been a faith institution for 124 years. She still is! We now have over 130 sustainers – 4 more last month. I rejoice and praise the Lord for these! They pray for the College and give at least $1200 per year – the cost of one day’s operation.
To be a sustainer you receive and accept the challenge by praying for Holmes Bible College and giving at least $1200 per year. You can do that by faith in God to provide the means for you to give $1200. That is the cost of one day's financial operation for the college.
God will bless you as you plant your seed of financial blessing for Holmes Bible College.
In a time of famine, "Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him." (Gen 26:12, NIV). Reaping a hundredfold harvest is a good thing when the weather and soil are favorable, but it is a miracle when it happens in a time of famine.
Allow God to speak to you and then do what He tells you to give. The Apostle Paul wrote this statement about God's provision: But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19, KJV).
Paul wrote this powerful statement about prayer and what God can and will do as we exercise our faith in Him and His promises, "20 Now to Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen" (Ephesians 3:20, 21, NIV).
Jesus said this about giving and receiving (the spiritual law of reciprocity) written in Luke 6:38, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (NKJV).

Here is the Scripture recorded in Luke's Gospel about what Jesus said in the synagogue in Nazareth, His hometown:
Luke 4:16-21
16 He came to Nazareth where He had been reared. As He always did on the Sabbath, He went to the meeting place (the synagogue). When He stood up to read, 17 He was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written,
18 God's Spirit is on Me;
He's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor,
Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and
recovery of sight to the blind,
To set the burdened and battered free,
19 to announce, "This is God's year to act!"
20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the assistant, and sat down. Every eye in the place was on Him, intent. 21 Then He started in, "You've just heard Scripture make history. It came true just now in this place."
