Willette Pearson Jackson
Poet Laureate for Christian Life Worship Center
Here's a poem Willette Pearson Jackson wrote in loving memory of her Godly mother. It is entitled, "Momma."
"Momma"
On a rocky little farm one bright September morn,
To Edgar and Delia Goodrum a baby girls was born.
There was Caude Lee, Annie, and now Bertie Mae,
“I think that is enough for us” to Edgar Delia did say.
She grew up a the baby and spoiled a bit I guess.
She had a happy childhood, of this she did confess.
But she was soon grown up, a girl of seventeen,
She fell in love and married, she'd be Harvey's Queen.
They started having babies as all couples do you know.
Their first born, little Annie Ruth, they buried in the snow.
She had six more girls and five fine sons, she gave her all for these.
Life was hard but she was happy, she loved her big family.
I remember her singing grand old hymns as about her work she'd go,
Milk the cows, feed the pigs, cook our dinner and off to the field to hoe.
As I grow older with children of my own,
I know a lot more about where she got her song.
I hear my sons talking about days they went,
To Grandmother's house, days so gladly spent.
They'd see her bow her head in prayer, her Bible in her lap,
Her hands lifted in praise to God, as they were down for a nap,
Praising God for blessings He'd been sending her way,
There's where the song came from in long ago days.

Willette Pearson Jackson is a petite ninety-one year-old Christian lady in our church in Athens, known as Christian Life Worship Center, formerly named Tarkenton Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. She, like all the Pearsons I have ever met, has a head full of beautiful curly hair. Her mind is sharp with many wonderful memories of the past. She loves her family and the people of our church. And we love her. She possesses wisdom and wit, and smiles and laughs that brighten our day. Her spirit is sweet, and gentleness is her hallmark with kindness and love to bestow.
Willette was the third child in her family. There was Annie Ruth, Lorene, and Willette in that order. She married John Jackson and God gave them five children, four boys and one girl. They are:
Barbara
Rodney
Randy
Rusty
Ronald
A few Sundays ago when we had our fall family fellowship day, Willette read this poem she had written in October 1992. I enjoyed hearing Willette read her poem about her Momma that I asked if I could publish it in Hugh's News. She made a copy and gave it to me at church yesterday, November 26, 2017.
Willette's husband died in 1983. She is a faithful and loyal member of our church. We all love her dearly.
