Everyday is a day of challenge for Melvine and her husband, Hugh Morgan.
The learning process never stops. Communication is paramount. Speaking the truth in love seems to be a key in communications as a care giver. Not only does Melvine not remember recent things that have happened, that is true for me. I had forgotten for example I had gotten in the mail today when I dragged our garbage can to the street. Greg had already placed our recycle bin up there on Sunday before he went back to Grove Town,
GA where he has an apartment.
I have had to add two medications for Melvine for her newly developed cough. One is a capsule, the other is cough syrup. I do believe she is improving, and I hope she is much better on Thursday. She tells me daily she has pain in her lower stomach and lower back. I give her extra pain medication every four hours if she needs it. She has never abused it. I will guard against that.
It is my responsibility to take Melvine's vital signs twice a day and record them. I give her prescribed medications twice a day, or as needed. For example, I can give Melvine three capsules for her cough as needed in one day. I can give her pain medication every four hours as needed. Thus far, I have only given her one or two extra pain medications in any one day.
I washed a load of white clothes on Tuesday evening, and dried them on Wednesday. Melvine helps me by folding the white cloths. I washed a large load of colored clothes and dried them today. Melvine will fold them on Thursday.
Friday is the day Melvine will return to the University Cancer and Blood Center in Athens, GA to take another round of chemotherapy. We hope to see Dr. Jane Huang, Melvine's oncologist. She had taken a personal day off last Friday, and we missed her. She is a delightful person, full of joy and enthusiasm, she has a spirit of optimism that is contagious. She is the right person to be an oncologist. She sees all kinds of patients and they are grateful for her professional care and compassion.
There is an unusual spirit of peace and tranquility at this cancer and blood center. The staff have been placed there by God to make this center one of the best in the nation. I don't like the early hour of the day we have to be present for Melvine's appointment on Friday. However, someone has to do it, so, why shouldn't we give it our best? Then too, we get go home earlier.
We are grateful for all of you who have reached out to us by your cards, letters, emails, or calls. It means so much to be known and loved by you.
Please keep up the prayers for Melvine and me. Of course, we would like for you to pray for Greg for his protection and prosperity.
Have a good day.
I hope Hugh's News is meeting a need in your life.
