Melvine and I arrived at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA, at approximately 6:30 a.m. yesterday, Thursday, November 10. As we drove up to the hospital near the entrance, Jeanette Phillips, a member of our church in Athens (Christian Life Worship Center) was standing there waiting for us to arrive. She removed my Cadillac walker in a flash, and after we unloaded my gear (bag with pajamas, underclothing, shaving razor, tooth brush, comb, etc.) Jeanette volunteered to park our Honda CRV in the parking deck. She did it in record time and caught up with us and we took the elevator to the 2nd floor for the short stay surgical suite. Jeanette was our good Samaritan and personal valet.
I was ushered into the surgical prep room where I was prepared for surgery. My blood pressure was perfect. However, the tech found an infection that I was not award of, and called the doctor. His medical assistant came and examined the infected site. He immediately told me that my surgery would be canceled until I can get this infection taken care of. He was not going to run the risk of getting the site for the hardware of the hip replacement infected. If that were to happen, I would have to have it all removed and suffer untold pain and suffering.
I thank God that my surgery was canceled. Of course, I am disappointed but thankful at the same time. I am seeking help from my family doctor as well as my urologist to clear up this infected area. In fact, I will see Dr. Gary Walton, urologist, on Friday, November 11, 2016, for his medical help.
Most of all, I need your prayers for my total healing. I want to report that God has touched my left pinky finger. The swelling caused by gout, is going. The pain has moved down from a 10 to 2. Although I continue to experience some residual pain, it is not as painful as it was. Both my feet are back to normal. All the swelling is gone. PTL!
I want to thank my son, Greg Morgan, for his willingness to do a daily report following my surgery. Most of all, I want to thank Melvine who stands with me through the good times and the bad. She made sure I was awake at 5 o'clock to get ready to drive to the hospital. She would have made a fantastic train master of a railroad.
How can I thank all of you who have written, sent emails and called? Most of all, I want to thank you for your prayers for my successful surgery and recovery.
The Lord willing, I will have the total right hip replacement according to God's timetable.
