Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, Georgia is presently in transition. Our most recent pastor resigned in May after seven months of ministry to our congregation.
This is the church we faithfully attend every Sunday and where we have our membership. Melvine is the leader of the Tuesday mornings Ladies Bible study and prayer meeting. She sings in the choir and sings solos when asked. Our son, Greg, is one of three pianists, and he has been serving as the director of World Missions.
Bishop Tim Lamb, our Georgia Conference (LifePoint Ministries) Superintendent, is our acting pastor. He is in charge of planning the pulpit supply each Sunday until our interim pastor comes on Sunday, September 4. He is the Rev. Mr. Matt Adams. As of this date I do not have a copy of his Curriculum Vitae. I do know that he is an educator and has advanced degrees. He has served as a youth pastor and an associate pastor, taught school, coached, been a principal, and currently is the Assistant Superintendent of the Franklin County Board of Education. He comes from a strong Christian family who are members of the Mountain Gap Pentecostal Holiness Church, Rock, Georgia. I do remember him as a youth, and I know and love his parents, Ronald and Sue Adams.
We look forward with eager anticipation to Matt Adams coming. He is married and has a son and two daughters.
I have been asked to preach at Christian Life Worship Center, formerly Tarkenton Memorial Church, this Sunday, August 28. I plan to preach about "The Prevenient Grace of God, the grace that precedes Saving Faith." That is a term that was coined by John Wesley. It is Scriptural, and it is my desire to explain something of how the Holy Spirit works in the mind and heart of unsaved persons to bring them to repentance and saving faith. The Spirit of God and the Word of God work together to bring about salvation in the heart and life of each individual who will respond to the call of God in true repentance and faith.
It was my privilege to be the pastor of Tarkenton Memorial Church for nine years, 1986 to 1995. My successor persuaded the congregation to rename the church Christian Life Worship Center. At one time it was called the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Athens. My predecessor was the Rev. Dr. Paul Hopkins.
May I take this opportunity to invite you to visit our church this Sunday to worship God with us, and to hear the message God has given me for this congregation and those who will visit.
Christian Life Worship Center is located at 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, Georgia 30607. Here are the directions to our church: US 129 . . . One mile north of the Athens bypass, at the Prince Avenue/Jefferson Exit. Turn right on Kathwood Drive, and our church is on your immediate left.
