Home for Christmas 2020
Author: Hugh H. Morgan
Christmas Day 2020 was different from any Christmas I have ever experienced. For the first time in 60 years I could not spend Christmas with Melvine, my deceased wife. She is in heaven celebrating the birthday of Jesus, and enjoying the joys of heaven.
In addition, Greg was in the hospital. In fact, he is still there and no doubt will be there for some time. I do not know how long. He is as very sick man and needs God's healing touch. God is using medical science with doctors, nurses, and many other medical personnel to bring the healing power of God into Greg's body.
I remember watching the movie "Home Alone." The little boy missed getting on the bus to go to the airport for their flight and the family didn't realize he was not with them. So, this creative and energetic boy had the time of his life as he spent Christmas at home alone.
Although no other human being was in my home, I was not alone. One of the names for Jesus is Emmanuel which means God with us. Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit will be with you forever. Here is the way it is described in the Gospel of John:
John 14:16-17
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.
NIV
The word Counselor is also rendered Comforter.
So, I have Jesus, Emmanuel, and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter with me in my home, and I am not alone. PTL!
May next door neighbor called me on Christmas to inform me she had made breakfast for me. She gave me a Fritta. The ingredients include scrambled eggs, chopped ham, mushrooms, and onions. I could only eat one half of it, and put the other half in the refrigerator to eat it for breakfast on Saturday.
My pastor, Terry Kesling and his lovely wife, Pam, brought Christmas dinner to my home. They visited with me for a good time, and just before they left, Pam heated it for me. I was blessed doubly by their pastoral visit. They prayed with me and that meant a lot to me. It is wonderful to belong to a good church with a gifted pastor and his wife, and people who care and call often, and volunteer to help me with many things.
Wayne and June Butler, my close friends, brought my supper from Zaxby's Saturday evening. I love their chicken.
I plan to watch the online virtual Sunday worship service from my church in Athens, GA called Christian Life Worship Center. It is a blessing to keep connected with my church in this way. God is giving a Word to our pastor for us as a congregation. Although I enjoy several television ministers, I need to hear what God is speaking through my pastor.
Please continue praying for Greg and me. I am grateful for the many cards you have sent me. Have a blessed Sunday.
