Hallelujah someone recognizes the absence of music by which one can feel the spirit of worship besides myself. I'm a member of the Cornerstone Conference (Greensboro, NC) and most of what we hear anymore is "7-11" music- 7 words repeated 11 times which in my opinion is not very conducive to worship when the congregation is bored and the seniors have to sit down due to fatigue.
I am a musician and singer and I am a Holy Ghost filled minister of the Gospel and I know the difference in music and being politically correct with fads in the church. Wonder how many people know "Amazing Grace" or "It Is Well With My Soul" compared to some of the repetitive 3 or 4 line "chants" that do not touch the deep seeded Holy Spirit within a man or woman's soul?
I am a firm believer that the music in churches today is attempting to use the world's methods to get God's message to the people and it's a wrong turn for GOD'S CHURCH. The world needs something that they don't have and we give them a rock concert to make them feel comfortable. Much of the music I hear in churches today make me want to do the "wave" rather than raise my hands in praise and worship to the King of kings. I once was invited to pastor a church in which one side of the congregation would stand and be led in their "7-11" choruses, then they would sit while the other half of the congregation would stand and sing the hymns of the old line established Church--I said: "No thank you." I believe we've walked away from "singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord in Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs" (Eph. 5:19).
Sincerely, Hank Brady (retired P.H. pastor--1st cousin to Dr. Charles Stanley; grandson of Rev. G. W. Stanley who organized about 18 P.H. Churches in the 30s and 40s in NC & VA)
