Getting to Know Gay & Frank Shepherd
Gay Shepherd and her husband, Frank, reside in Elon, NC. The have been faithful members of Trinity Worship Center, a Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Burlington, NC, where Darrell Cox is the present pastor.
They joined Trinity Worship Center after they married. Frank came from the Altamahaw PH Church, and Gay came from the Maiden PH Church. However, they have been attending an interdenominational church for the past 6 months . The pastor at the present church was mentored by Dr. James Gardner for 25 years. Both Frank and Gay served on the church board/council at different times. Dr. James Gardner became their pastor in 1982, when it was the Burlington First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He served for 26 years as the pastor.
Gay and Frank were married by John Swails in Franklin Springs, 45 years ago—soon to be 46 years (August 30).
Gay is a graduate of Emmanuel College with the Associate of Arts degree. She is a graduate of East Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with the MLS (Master of Library Science) degree.
Gay taught English at Williams High School in Burlington, NC and was librarian at Williams High School. She was sent to Cummings High School in Burlington to set up the library for the new high school. In addition, she served as Reference Librarian at Elon College and Greensboro College.
Frank worked for 36 years with Bell South (known early on as Southern Bell) as an engineer for most of those years.
Frank served for 12 years on the Board of Education of Emmanuel College. Gay has completed 20 years on the board, and was recently re-elected to serve for another term. Frank and Gay are ardent supporters of Emmanuel College. They are loyal subscribers and supporters of Hugh's News and friends of Melvine (deceased) and me. We stayed in their home for a weekend when I served on the Bishops Pastoral Care Council when the meeting was held at the Burlington Church when Jimmy Gardner was the pastor. Jimmy Gardner was a prince of pastors, an excellent pastoral counselor, and anointed preacher of the Word. What wonderful memories I have of Jimmy and Esther, his lovely wife.
