It is from a heart of sincere gratitude to each of you who made your voices heard in heaven on behalf of me when I had a total right hip replacement at Saint Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA on January 4, 2018.
My surgeon, Dr. Ormonde Mahoney, had wanted to do a spinal block. However, they discovered that I have so much arthritis in my lower back that they have to give me an anesthesia to put me to sleep.
That anesthesia apparently caused my intestines to go to sleep. It is called "Ileus."
Ileus is a disruption or reduction of the blood supply to the abdomen.
Patients may be treated with supervised bed rest in a hospital and bowel rest. Bowel rest means that nothing is taken by mouth and patients are fed intravenously or through the use of a nasogastric tube. A nasogastric tube is a tube inserted through the nose, down the throat, and into the stomach. All I could have by mouth was chipped ice. I was not allowed to each much of the chipped ice, but how I longed to eat more. It was torture for me, but a procedure they had to follow to get me well. In the process I completely lost all appetite for food. My appetite did come back on Tuesday of this week. PTL.
I was a very sick human being in need of prayer and a touch from God. He is my healer and He uses many delivery systems to bring about healing.
During that time, Satan came and spoke to my mind. He told me I would die, my life was meaningless, I was a failure, and that my future was dim. However, I fought back with the Sword of the Word of God the Bible and the aid of the Blessed Holy Spirit. I am so glad I have memorized Scriptures all my life, and even today at the age of 85, continue to memorize the Scriptures. One of the many Scriptures I quoted during a night of travail was Psalm 118:17:
I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the Lord.
NKJV
As the night ended and the sun arose in the east, God gave me the victory through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.
In that process, God did something supernatural in my heart. God has purified my heart by faith. For the first time in a long while, I feel cleansed from all sin in my life. My thoughts are pure, and I love Jesus with a new love that I have longed to have and my intimate relationship with Him. I describe my walk with the Lord Jesus Christ as is depicted in the hymn of the church entitled, "In the Garden":
1. I come to the garden alone
while the dew is still on the roses,
and the voice I hear falling on my ear
the Son of God discloses.
Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
and He tells me I am His own;
and the joy we share as we tarry there,
none other has ever known.
2. He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
and the melody that He gave to me
within my heart is ringing. (Refrain)
3. I’d stay in the garden with Him
though the night around me be falling,
but He bids me go; thru the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling. (Refrain)
Melvine and Jeanette Herndon Phillips came to the Oaks Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday to get me and bring me home. This was was the day I longed to see. There is no place like home. I am on a standard walker and I am able to walk without pain and I am standing up much taller. Blenda and Doug Smith and Vonnie Parnell brought our supper Wednesday night and it was awesome. We have some of the best cooks in the known world at our church, Christian Life Worship Center. I love our church, the people and our new pastor Chaplain Terry Kesling and his wife, Pam. God has called them to come to be our pastor. I believe they are here in the Will of God.
They are here for the long haul. Terry is an excellent singer, worship and praise leader, a gifted teacher, and an anointed preacher. I would like to invite you to attend our church in Athens, GA.
I want to testify that I have absolutely no pain in my right hip. Dr. Ormonde Mahoney used the interior surgery procedure for my total right hip replacement. As a result I can bend way over while sitting in a chair and touch my toes, put on my socks and shoes, and tie them. I haven't been able to do that at all in recent years. I am so blessed and I give God all the glory, and I thank God for an orthopedic doctor like Dr. Mahoney.
A nurse is coming this afternoon to check on me. She will change the dressing on my long incision. Melvine has been changing it for me.
This week, I hope to get a team of physical and occupational therapists to put me the paces of exercises.
I am still very weak, and my stamina is depleted. It will take time to gain my strength back and get back in shape.
I am so grateful for a good and faithful wife, Melvine, who has stuck with me for over 57 years of marriage. She will not go to our church today knowing she has to be with me. My doctors do not want me to be at home by myself.
So, I do need your continued prayers, for wisdom, strength, stamina and glowing health.

Hugh Holmes Morgan
