LAKE CITY, SC--The South Carolina Conference and Mission:M25 will host two Free Camp experiences Labor Day weekend. Free Camp of the Pee Dee will take place September 2-5 at the South Carolina IPHC Conference Campgrounds, while Free Camp of the Lowcountry will be September 3-5 at Camp Jackson.
The Free Camp mission is to provide kids with a free spiritual encounter with God, where social, economic, and racial barriers are broken down. As the name implies, the event is totally free to all campers, regardless of economic status.
Free Camp was started by Christian Heritage Church (Amarillo, TX) more than 20 years ago. Since that time, the event has expanded across the U.S. and into several countries worldwide.
Pastor Cory Jones of Emmanuel P.H. Church and Youth Leader Andrew Miles, of Matthews Tabernacle P.H. Church, both of Lake City, will direct the Pee Dee Camp, while Rev. Jason Shackleford is the Lowcountry director.
“The best way to invest in a community is to invest in its youth,” they said. “We want each child to feel valued, and to rise to the potential they have inside them.”
The camp focuses on building up each child’s self-esteem through activities that promote positive attitudes, personal character, and positive role models. Every activity is designed to “level the playing field” so children do not focus on athletic, intellectual, economic, racial or social differences.
Practically, Free Camp is about giving young people the opportunity to experience summer camp, regardless of their economic status. Spiritually, it is about helping youth discover a new destiny.
Free Camp is a chance to change a child’s life forever. Please be in prayer for both camps. To learn more or to find out how you can help, call the S.C. Conference Office at (843) 394-8508.
