Everette Joe Rogers, II, 85, went to be with the Lord, November 28, 2016. Joe was born November 18, 1931 in Coalwood, WV, to the late Everett J. & Thelma B. Rogers. He was devoted to God and his family. Joe was a talented musician and taught vocal, piano, English, and Spanish in Freeborn, KY, Charleston, WV, and Emmanuel College in Franklin, GA, New Brunswick, NJ, and Roanoke City Schools.
He was an ordained minister with the Appalachian Conference of International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was involved in music at the following churches: Westchester, NJ, Freeborn, KY, St. Albans, WV, Roanoke PH, and Christian Life. He also played the organ at Piedmont and Appalachian Conference camp meetings.
He graduated from Bob Jones University and received a master’s degree from Westchester State University. He also attended classes at Radford and UVA Universities.
Joe had a great sense of humor, and would never pass up a good joke. Never a harsh word for anyone, but genuinely showing the love of Jesus Christ to everyone through his humility and faithfulness in the Kingdom.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Halsey Laurence “Larry” Rogers and surviving wife Margaret B. Rogers. Surviving him is his wife of 57 years, Harriett Green Rogers; son, Joel M. Rogers; daughter and son-in-law, Genevieve and Lynn Coffey; grandchildren, Terry L. Coffey, DeAnna Coffey; brother, Doyle B. Rogers.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, Roanoke, VA.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. at Christian Life International on Friday, December 2, 2016.
Interment will follow services at 2 p.m. at the Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin, VA.
