State Representative and Emmanuel College Alumnus Micah Gravley (’97) will deliver this year’s commencement address to approximately 160 graduates, their families and friends at EC's graduation 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in the John W. Swails Center.

Micah is a 1997 graduate of Emmanuel College where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Business, History and Biblical Studies.
Micah received a Baseball scholarship to Emmanuel College and later helped organize the school’s first Club Soccer program. As a student, Micah was active in musical theatre performing in the school’s annual Spring Musical and served as the President of the Baptist Student Union from 1995-97. In 1996, Micah organized Emmanuel’s first Mock Presidential Debate on campus. In 1997, he founded the Emmanuel College History Club under the direction of the late Dr. James Edmondson. He was also a member of the 1997 Championship SIFE Team. He will forever be Buzzard Blue!
From 1998 to 2001 Micah served as the District Field Director for Republican Congressman Bob Barr, managing the campaign’s Grassroots Program. In 2002, he was appointed as Special Assistant to Governor Sonny Perdue. He served as the Public Safety Coordinator for the Governor’s Office suites in the Capitol; and led the Governor’s initiative to reorganize the Georgia Film & Music Advisory Board.
In 2004, Micah was appointed to the redeveloped Georgia Film, Music and Entertainment Advisory Board, serving in an advisory capacity for Governor Perdue. Micah also led the Ramses Project for the Perdue Administration and served as Governor Perdue’s liaison on Emory University’s Michael C. Carlos Museum’s initiative to return the mummy of “Ramses the Great” home to Egypt. In 2004, he was recognized by the Egyptian Parliament as a friend to Egypt.
After leaving the Perdue Administration in 2005, Micah focused on the development of grassroots programs for Local, State and Federal Campaigns in Georgia. He led the presidential campaign efforts of Gov. Mike Huckabee and the McCain-Palin Campaign in Paulding County.
In 2009, Micah founded Public Safety Appreciation Day in Paulding County, serving as the Board’s President until 2012. The organization is now a Georgia non-profit honoring & supporting the men and women of Public Safety in Paulding County. Micah is also a 2011 graduate of the Hiram Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy and continues to be an advocate for Public Safety Personnel in his community.
In 2010 Micah started 1776 Strategies, Inc., a small business development company consulting clients in the legal and public safety service industries. Micah is a dedicated man of faith and has participated in Foreign Missions around the world. His international travel has lead him to Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America to include Albania, Austria, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
In November of 2012, Micah was elected to the Georgia General Assembly from the 67th House District representing parts Douglas and Paulding Counties. In 2013 House Speaker David Ralston selected Micah for the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government & Leadership. In 2015 Micah was asked to serve as a Deputy Whip for the Republican Caucus. Neighbor News Papers named Micah the 2015 News Maker of the Year for his work on passing Medical Cannabis Oil legislation with Rep. Allen Peake.
In 2016, he was named Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Fire Chiefs and Fire Fighters Association and he was named the 2016 Legislative Champion by the International Association of Fire Fighters for his work on legislation to provide coverage and benefits for firefighters diagnosed with cancer in the line of duty.
Micah resides in Douglasville, South Paulding County, with his devoted wife Heather, their three beautiful daughters Hope Elizabeth, Bella Faith, and Abigail Jane, and dogs Reagan and Lucy.
