FORT BENNING, GA. -- International Skeet and Trap were the focus of this weekend's ACUI 2019 Eastern International Championships. Cloudy skies gave way to sunshine and gorgeous Georgia spring weather for day one of the two-day event. It took a few rounds for some of the team to get on track, but by the end of the first day the Emmanuel College Clay Target Team was sitting at the top of the team rankings.
Day two of the competition opened to sunny skies and strong winds that got progressively worse by afternoon. The wind kept all of the day's scores down; however, the lead the team had built on the previous day held. Emmanuel College Clay Target Team finished in first place with a combined event score of 948. Finishing in second 126 targets back was the University of Alabama Clay Shooting Team with 822. Florida State University Skeet and Trap Club finished third.
Coinciding with the team's success, Emmanuel saw two of its athletes win individual awards. Colton Evans, a sophomore and the team's top shot for the weekend, took home the Gold Medal in International Skeet. Mark Beardsley, a senior, finished with a Silver Medal in International Trap at his last trip to Fort Benning. Senior Evan Milford also had a strong showing in his last trip to Fort Benning.
