“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
This is one of the best verses to use in leading someone to Christ. The power of confession and repentance brings the work of God into our hearts and lives. I am always amazed how God can transform a life from the depths of sin. I would have never believed that my father could have been changed so drastically. It made such an impression on my life that I bought my first Bible and began searching.
This verse also talks about even a deeper work of grace. We can be cleansed from all sin. Yes, that is possible. We can be totally restored to God’s moral image and live without committing voluntary sin. We are free indeed to love God with all of our hearts.
It is amazing to see how so many people, even church members, will fight the message of holiness. They will make fun of those who desire and testify to a holy life. They will even persecute seekers of holiness. Does that mean they will fight against God? It seems so, because the Bible is very clear not only here, but in many references that we should have a heart that is pure in its motive before Him—cleansed to the core. It is imperative that we preach and teach Holiness to help believers receive the experience of sanctification.
