Church Honors Wounded Hero
Why? In such conditions would men ride in these conditions? We were welcoming Gunnery Sgt Chris Claude from Pennsylvania was arriving by air.
On Sunday morning, the church began to gather at 10 o'clock for the morning worship service. Gunnery SGT Claude was again honored, along with all the veterans. This was a weekend of God and Country, a stand inside and outside the church for His Kingdom and our Country! There were motorcycles inside the church, Pastor Mark's ride, a bike with a salvage title that looks like a show bike was used to remind us that the Creative Power of God made us like He wants us while in our Mother's womb, Psalms 139:13-14. However, many of us crash and burn but God does not discard us. He has the ability to re-create us as He did the world in Genesis 1 and Psalms 51 reveals this truth in King David's life, Lord create a GENESIS week in me. There was much hope and encouragement in the house.
[Editor's Comment: I never read what Gary Burd writes without feeling the excitement and passion he has for this biker ministry that gets so many people involved. God has anointed Gary for this ministry that keeps on keeping on. He seems never to tire of being with these bikers, and honoring the heroes of our great nation. He and Carolyn are for real. They are genuine in their faith and outreach to men and women most of our churches may never reach with the Gospel.
I am thinking of how Eugene Peterson renders John 1:14 in the Message:
The Word became flesh and blood,
and moved into the neighborhood.
(from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)
The question is for the church, and that is me, too, "When are we going to move into our neighborhood to share the crucified, buried, risen, and living Lord Jesus Christ?"
If our churches are dying is it because we have failed to share the Gospel with our surrounded neighborhood. They are waiting for us to come. They will not come on their own. Of course, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us, and the Word of God to instruct us. We have the message. I know it well. But have I shared it? God help us!
Receiving the Baptism with or in the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance is not the end. The purpose has never changed. It is to be a witness for Christ. Here is what the Bible says in Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (KJV).
When I served as a member of the World Missions Ministries Board of the IPHC, one of the questions I would ask of every candidate who came before us for endorsement was, "How many people have you lead to Jesus Christ?" We are all on a mission and that is to be a witness and a soul-winner. What about it? Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth." Let me ask you, "When are you going to get out of your salt shaker?"
Thanks Gary and Carolyn Burd for stirring up our comfortable nest. Kick us out of it, Now!]
